Henry Mosto, a 16-year-old junior at Poughkeepsie Day School, modeled clothes from Helmut Lang last week during Fashion Week after being scouted in Union Square Park.
"A guy came up to me and asked if I had modelled," Mosto said. "He gave me his number and I went in for casting. I didn't think anything would come from it."
Mosto differentiated himself from other auditioners by wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt. He said his style is generally casual.
The proposition seemed suspicious at first to Mosto, but he and his family later did their research and everything was legitimate. Before participating in the show, Mosto said he never practiced his walk but was surprised by how much rehearsal went into the show.
"The show was only five minutes long," Mosto said. "It's a world I was never really exposed to."
Mosto's mother, Anne McGrath, said she thought the show was spectacular.
"None of it seemed distasteful," McGrath said. "It was very artistic. People were so nice to Henry."
When it came to doing his walk, Mosto said he zoned out.
"I did what other people were doing, I just walked fast, like a strut," Mosto said.
At the show, Mosto got to meet rapper Lil' Yachty and Ian Connor, ending up on their Snapchat and Instagram accounts.
"It was really cool, I got to introduce myself," Mosto said. "I'm just big fans of their music."
When he's not walking down runways, Mosto is a musician, he just released his own EP. Focusing on drumming, he spends a lot of his time at Rock Academy in Woodstock.
"My music is experimental," Mosto said. "It's multigenre. I listen to a lot of rap and a lot of rock and soul, so it's a blend."
Mosto said he would definitely do modeling again.
"If I get an offer, I'm going to take it," Mosto said. "It was really cool to be in that environment."
